Often appearing in holiday snaps from sunnier climes abroad, Aeonium 'Zwartkopt' is a branching, succulent evergreen perennial of open habit, with rosettes of deep blackish-purple leaves, and large panicles of small, starry, bright yellow flowers in early spring. Best grown under glass or in a conservatory to bask in the protected heat, or as a summer visitor to a sunny patio deck. - Garden care: Plants will need protection in winter so move them to a dry, frost-free spot. In summer, water sparingly as they are well adapted to dry conditions and will draw on water stored in their succulent leaves. Grow on in a loam-based potting compost with added extra grit. Water moderately when in growth, not at all when dormant during the cooler months. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly throughout the growing season.
