Large, rounded umbels of violet-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers, top the upright stems of this impressive agapanthus from midsummer.
The flowers appear in abundance and are distinguished by a deeper purple stripe that runs down the centre of of each flaring petal, giving them a two-tone effect.
'Northern Star' (PBR) is also one of the hardier (deciduous) types - and the a purplish flush to the base of the lush green foliage is an added bonus.

Depending on the location of planting in the UK, these agapanthus can be semi-evergreen and hold onto their leaves in milder winters, though will typically lose them in colder regions or spells of weather. However, wrapping in a double layer of horticultural fleece and mulching around the base can safeguard the roots.
