This gorgeous anemone looks wonderful when planted in big, naturalised swathes, where there is a reliable amount of moisture. It forms a low, softly hairy mound of foliage, which in late spring and early summer is topped with elegant, lilac-backed white flowers that have a central cluster of deep purple-blue anthers.
Anemone leveillei is happiest in a sunny spot, it can also be grown in lightly dappled shade.

When planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted compost to improve fertility, and add grit or sand if the soil is heavy to improve drainage and soil structure.
Space plants 30-45cm (12-18in) apart and water thoroughly after planting. This hybrid cultivar thrives in partial shade and benefits from consistent moisture, so apply a layer of organic mulch to help retain soil moisture and regulate temperature.
Cut back flower stalks after blooming and remove any dead leaves in early spring. Apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring to support healthy growth.
While this anemone dislikes frequent disturbance, dividing congested clumps every 4-5 years in early spring will help maintain vigour. Although it establishes quickly, its spread is moderate, so occasional division can help manage its growth.
