Flamingo flowers are known for their decorative foliage and colourful leaf bracts and large, heart-shaped, dark green leaves. The young leaves of Anthurium clarinervium emerge with a reddish hue before later developing their green colour which display striking, white patterns, making this popular houseplant attractive all year round. It grows in the canopy of trees in its native Mexico so an open compost suitable for orchids is recommended.

Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

  • Home care:
Flamingo flowers prefer bright, indirect light and consistently warm, humid conditions. Water well during spring and summer, allowing the top layer of compost to dry slightly between waterings, and reduce watering in winter.

Mist the leaves regularly to boost humidity, especially in centrally heated rooms, and occasionally rinse the foliage under a lukewarm shower to remove dust. Keep away from cold draughts and ensure temperatures stay above 15°C (59°F) year-round. Use a free-draining houseplant compost, and repot every two years or when roots become congested.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin/eye irritant
