A great option for adding variety to pots, windowsills or herb beds, this duo offers both colour and flavour. This mix contains two basil types – a traditional green-leaved basil with a sweet, mild flavour, and a deep red-leaved form with a more intense, spicy taste. Both are excellent for cooking and garnishing, bringing contrasting tones and an iconic aroma to dishes.

Grow in full sun in a warm, sheltered spot or under glass for best leaf production. Regular picking encourages bushier growth and stops the plants from flowering too soon. Basil 'Duo Mixture' thrives in fertile, free-draining soil or compost, and benefits from consistent watering.

Ideal for summer salads, pasta, pesto or as a fresh topping, it’s a favourite for home cooks and gardeners alike. Rich in vitamin K, antioxidants, calcium and magnesium, this herb brings nutritional value as well as bold flavour.

  • Garden care:
Plant out into the herb garden or into roomy pots or troughs from early summer, after all threat of frost has passed, allowing 15-20cm (6-8in) between plants. Pick plants over regularly (harvest from July to October) and remove any developing flowerheads immediately to prevent bolting (running to seed) and to encourage lots of fresh young leaves.

Sow seeds into pots of free-draining seed compost on a warm, sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse from late spring. (April to early June). Protect seedlings from slugs and cold and keep well-watered as they grow.

  • Sow: April to June
