- Home care:Rex begonias require special care during the summer months. It's best to keep them in shaded areas and provide ample watering, ensuring proper drainage and maintaining a humid atmosphere around the plants. Avoid wetting the leaves or the crown.
As winter approaches, reduce the frequency of watering. Allow the compost surface to dry out before watering again. These begonias thrive with a minimum winter temperature of 13°C (55°F) across all varieties.
For optimal growth, feed them every two weeks from May to September using a high nitrogen fertiliser.
A compact, predominantly silver-leaved houseplant with a dark-edged filigree and spidery, central star. White flowers appear periodically throughout the year. Like most rhizomatous begonias, ‘Silver Lace’ has deep red undersides to the leaves to help absorb longer wavelengths of light reflected in shady environments.
