A marginal aquatic perennial with glossy mid-green foliage which gradually spreads on plump, shiny stems, creating an enchanting foil for the water's edge. In late spring, simple white arum-like flowers grace the scene, transitioning into vivid red berries in autumn. Thriving in shallow water, Calla palustris is a versatile gem, flourishing even in shaded areas areas though its flowering will be reduced. Prefers neutral to acidic soils. Deer resistant.

  • Garden care:
Water arum grows well in reliably moist to boggy soil and is ideal for planting at the edge of ponds or in shallow water up to 25cm (10in) deep. Use the included aquatic baskets filled with loam-based compost to make lifting or repositioning easier and minimise root disturbance.

It prefers neutral to acidic conditions and benefits from a spot in sun or part shade. Remove faded flowers and yellowing leaves to keep the plant tidy. Cut back stems after flowering and divide clumps in early spring if they become congested.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin/eye irritant
