This compact evergreen shrub is known for its glossy, aromatic, dark green leaves, divided into narrow, hand-shaped leaflets. Twice a year, pink buds open into clusters of star-shaped, highly scented white flowers with a fragrance reminiscent of orange blossom, adding seasonal interest in spring and again in autumn.
Choisya ternata Scented Gem grows into a rounded, bushy shape, making it an excellent choice for borders or as a standalone specimen feature. Drought-tolerant once established, it thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, providing low-maintenance beauty and scent, and year-round structure to any garden.

Plant in a lightly shaded spot, conditioning the soil with well-rotted compost and some mycorrhizal fungi to aid root development.
Prune established plants in spring immediately after flowering, removing 25-30cm (10-12in) of the flowered stems. This encourages a second flush of flowers in late-summer and autumn. At the same time, remove any frost-damaged stems to the base.
