Relatively undemanding and easy to grow, this compact and bushy clematis is perfect for underplanting roses, and it will also look great when woven through larger, purple-leaved shrubs. In smaller gardens, it's ideal for potting up and placing on the terrace or balcony, where it's abundance of flowers can be enjoyed over a long period.

Cut back the stems to the base of the plant each winter and apply a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
