A delightful perennial herbaceous clematis boasting lance-shaped, purple-tinged leathery leaves, and blooms with nodding, fragrant, sugar-pink, bell-shaped flowers, 4cm (1in) wide, delicately shaded darker on the outside. From early to late summer, these charming blossoms adorn the non-clinging, bushy form, capturing attention in borders basking in full sun or partial shade. Clematis integrifolia ‘Rosea’ has a prolonged season of interest, gracing the garden with its silky seed-heads, ensuring a lasting fascination through to the first frosts.

  • Garden care:
Clematis are happiest when their roots are kept cool and moist, so try to plant them where the base of the plants will be lightly shaded by other, lower-growing species. Cut back the stems to the base of the plant each winter and apply a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown. Use twiggy prunings, ring stakes or bamboo canes to provide support.
  • To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
