- Soil: moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil (or John Innes no. 3 for containers)
- Rate of growth: fast
- Hardiness: tender (will need winter protection)
Velvety, dark purple leaves with a flash of magenta along the midrib, triangular in shape, pointed and lobed, 'Black Dragon' is a compact and upright tender, evergreen perennial. Whorled racemes of violet blue flowers appear in summer. Well suited to block planting for impactful bedding schemes, this deer resistant plant is also good value in a pot or container. - Garden care: Plant out after all risk of frost has passed. Pinch out young shoots regularly to maintain foliage colour and a compact shape. Remove emerging flower spikes to maintain bushy habit. If growing in pots, move indoors in autumn to overwinter.
