An attractive, tropical-looking house plant that is primarily grown for its variegated foliage, which is a beautiful mix of green, cream, yellow and pink.

The upright stems form a bushy clump that in time will reach around 1.5 metres in height, and during the warmer months, you may also see sprays of pink-flushed flowers, followed by deep purple berries.

Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

  • Home care:
Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the top of the compost to dry slightly between waterings. Cut back watering in winter and avoid letting the plant sit in water. Use rainwater if possible to prevent leaf tip browning caused by fluoride in tap water.

Mist the leaves occasionally or place the pot on a tray of damp pebbles to increase humidity, and give the plant an occasional cool shower to clean the foliage. It’s well suited to humid rooms like bathrooms or kitchens.

Keep in a warm spot with temperatures above 15°C (59°F) and out of cold drafts or dry air from heated radiators. Place in moderate to bright, indirect light—this Cordyline is more tolerant of lower light than some, but direct sun can scorch the leaves.

Repot every couple of years, and feed monthly with a weak liquid fertiliser during the growing season.
