Tiny, yellow-tipped, green flowers in May, surrounded by white or pink flower bracts, and curled mid-green leaves turning red-purple in autumn.

This conical, deciduous tree or shrub thrives in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil. Unsuitable for shallow, chalky soils, Cornus florida is an excellent specimen tree for a small sunny garden.

  • Garden care:
Our pot grown trees can be planted at any time of the year. Clear vegetation within a metre of your desired planting hole, then dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and roughly 1.5 times as wide.

Place into the planting hole, sprinkle Rootgrow (mycorrhizal fungi) on the rootball, to help the plant establish. Using 50% of the original soil and 50% well-rotted organic matter/compost, fill in the hole and firm around gently, making sure not to bank the soil up around the collar of the tree. Stake and support the tree firmly.

If you’re planting in spring or summer, water well and regularly for the first few months.Take care to water the soil, not the leaves which can lead to scorching - irrigation kits make this easier.
