Eventually growing to form an upright, branching shrub up to 2.5m (8ft) tall, this succulent is so easy to grow - provided it gets lots of light and is not overwatered. That makes Crassula ovata a great plant for a child, or for an inexperienced gardener who just wants something to look nice without needing lots of care.

The fleshy leaves can be rounded or slightly pointed, but all exhibit a red-tinge to their margins.

Please note that the plant comes in a 12cm nursery pot as standard, unless a decorative pot cover is included as an option.

  • Home care:
Plant in a bright spot with well-draining succulent or cactus compost. During the growing season, water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely, and let the compost dry out between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to a minimum to prevent root rot, keeping the plant just lightly moist.

Crassula benefits from occasional feeding in spring and summer with a diluted succulent fertiliser. Remove any dead or shrivelled leaves to keep the plant tidy and encourage new growth. Light pruning of leggy stems can be done at any time to maintain shape.
