This small, thorny, deciduous tree forms a spreading canopy of shallowly lobed rich green leaves, studded in mid- to late spring, with clusters of small white, double flowers. These usually fade to soft pink as they age, and are then followed by rounded red berries.

The RHS award-winning Crataegus × media 'Plena' is a great ornamental option for the smaller garden or woodland setting, and when in bloom, attracts pollinating insects and nesting birds in its dense canopy.

  • Garden care:
When planting, add some soil conditioner (well-rotted compost) to the planting hole and some mycorrhizal fungi to aid root establishment.

Ensure the top of the plant's compost is flush with the level of the surrounding soil and the collar of the tree is above ground level.

Support taller specimens either with a bamboo cane and or stake during establishment. Water generously around the base of the plant.
    • Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
