Forming a mound of attractively scalloped, dark green foliage, this low-growing groundcover also produces rounded white flowers, which are laced with magenta-red veins. Erodium reichardii 'Album' makes an attractive addition to an alpine or rock garden, and can also be used to add summer colour to a sunny patio or border edge.
Plant Erodium in full sun with well-drained soil, ideally sandy or gritty, as they dislike sitting in wet conditions. When planting, space them about 20-25 cm (8-10 in) apart to allow for spreading. Water well after planting, then sparingly once established, as they become drought-tolerant.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat blooming and trim lightly to maintain a neat shape. Apply a light mulch of gravel or grit around the base to keep foliage dry and reduce the risk of rot.
Fertiliser is rarely needed, but a light basal granular feed in spring can boost growth.
