The graceful habit of this foliage house plant has made it a firm favourite for many years. Commonly known as the weeping fig, the branch tips of Ficus benjamina 'Exotica' are somewhat pendent - and they are covered in loads of pointed, rich green leaves, which have a subtle lustre.

Please note that the plant comes in a 24cm nursery pot as standard, unless a decorative pot cover is included as an option.

  • Home care:
Ficus benjamina grows best in bright, indirect light and should be kept in a consistent spot away from draughts and heat sources, as sudden changes often cause leaf drop. Water moderately, allowing the top of the compost to dry out between waterings, and feed every 2-4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser, reducing both watering and feeding in winter.

This plant thrives in warm, humid conditions, so maintain temperatures between 16-24°C (60-75°F) and mist the foliage or use a pebble tray to raise humidity indoors. Light pruning in spring or summer helps control size and encourages a bushier shape, while wiping leaves keeps them dust-free.

Repot every 2–3 years into free-draining houseplant compost, or simply refresh the top layer of soil annually once the plant is mature. Some leaf drop is natural, especially when the plant is adjusting, but a steady care environment will encourage healthy new growth.
