Snake's head fritillary are much-loved for their nodding, bell-shaped flowers, which rise above the grass-like, grey-green foliage. Ideal for naturalised planting schemes, Fritillaria meleagris are often seen partnered with ornamental grasses, but they will also look charming in mixed borders or patio pots.

In each collection you will receive the following:

  • 10 × Fritillaria meleagris var. unicolor subvar. alba: A gorgeous sight in mid- to late spring, when the pretty white flowers appear on slender stems. Grows to 30cm.

  • 10 × Fritillaria meleagris: Deep claret-purple to pinkish purple or even occasionally white flowers, each with distinctive checkerboard markings on their petals, appear in April and May. Grows to 30cm.

  • Garden care:
These smaller fritillary bulbs should be planted about 10cm (4in) deep. They like moist, humus-rich soil and thrive in damp meadows, lawns, or shady borders. Once planted, avoid lifting and allow them to naturalise. Minimal aftercare beyond ensuring moisture is usually best.
    • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
