This hellebore collection includes some unusual and very beautiful cultivars, which will provide valuable colour from midwinter to mid-spring. Originating from woodland and shrubby undergrowth throughout large parts of Europe and Western Asia, these rhizomatous perennials will thrive on soils with a chalk or limestone base where the pH is alkaline or neutral.
Hardy and relatively adaptable, they will also cope with a wide range of fertile, humus-rich soils provided they are not too dry or waterlogged. They are happiest in partial shade, but will tolerate full sun if kept well watered.
Please note: The image shows white hellebores in the vase, however these are not included in the collection. If you wish to add white flowers to your display, then we'd recommend Helleborus × hybridus 'Double Ellen White'.

In each collection you will receive one 9cm pot of each of the following.
Helleborus 'Double Ellen Red': Heavily spotted, red-pink flowers and dark green foliage, make these perennials a fine addition to winter-themed containers, especially when under-planted with early spring flowering bulbs. Grows to 35cm.
Helleborus 'Double Ellen Peach': This hellebore captivates with its pale peachy-pink petals delicately rimmed in the finest pink, surrounding a soft greenish-yellow centre and adorned with elegant claret speckles that create mesmerising and variable floral designs in the same plant. Grows to 35cm.
Helleborus 'Double Ellen Purple': Double, deep purple flowers, often delicately speckled, bloom from late winter to early spring, contrasting beautifully with glossy, dark green, semi-evergreen foliage. These cup-shaped blooms, with their creamy yellow stamens, add rich depth to shaded borders or containers and provide a valuable nectar source for early pollinators. Grows to 35cm.
Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. It will also help to reduce/minimise the spread of any foliar diseases (such as hellebore leaf spot) if present.
Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring. Cut off the seed heads to prevent inferior seedlings colonising.
