Bright lime-green flowers make Helleborus Illumi Lime a striking choice for late winter and early spring interest.

Its nodding, cup-shaped blooms appear on upright stems above leathery, silver-marbled dark green foliage, forming an evergreen or semi-evergreen mound. Perfect for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or patio containers, this hardy perennial thrives in well-drained, humus-rich soil and tolerates partial shade.

Low maintenance once established, and deer-resistant, this early herbaceous hellebore requires only occasional tidying of spent flowers and leaves. A reliable option for winter displays, Illumi Lime also works beautifully in cut flower arrangements, bringing vivid colour and texture to dormant-season planting schemes and interiors.

  • Garden care:
Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. It will also help to reduce/minimise the spread of any foliar diseases (such as hellebore leaf spot) if present.

Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring. Cut off the seed heads to prevent inferior seedlings colonising.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin irritant
