The outer edges at the base of each trumpet-shaped flower has a metallic blue hue, which makes the rich mauve blooms look as though they have been dipped in blueberry syrup. Hyacinthus orientalis 'Purple Star' is a showy hyacinth, that will liven up the bedding display, particularly when planted with silvers or softer lilacs, pinks and blues.


  • Garden care:
    Using gloves, plant bulbs outdoors 10-15cm (4-6in) deep and 15cm (6in) apart in early or mid-autumn. Cut off the flower stalk at the base when the flowers fade. Once the foliage has died back, outdoor bulbs can be left in the ground to flower the following year.
