Much-loved additions to the late spring and early summer garden, thesegorgeous iris are invaluable for filling the gap between the last of thetulips and the first flowers of the summer perennials.


In each collection you will receive one of each of the followingbare root iris plants:

  • Iris 'Burgermeister': Bred by the hybridizer Schreiner andintroduced in1987, ‘Burgermeister’ is described as a first rate garden plant. Between MayJune rosy violet falls and soft buff cream standards subtly infused with a hintof lavender in the midribs emerge with fans of sword-shaped, grey-greenleaves. Grows to 75cm.

  • Iris 'Edith Wolford': An eye-catching iris, with lovelyruffled flowers that are made up with a topknot of pale buttery-yellowstandards, which sit above the rich violet falls. Appearing from May to June,the large flowers appear on sturdy stems, which rise from amongst thelance-shaped foliage. 'Edith Wolford' looks great when teamed with the yellowTulipa 'Honky Tonk', or contrast it with the deeply coloured Tulipa 'Queen ofNight'. Grows to 75cm.

  • Iris 'English Cottage': The large flowers of this beardediris are subtlyinfused with both lilac and yellow, creating an almost ethereal yet luminoushead that looks wonderful in the low light. As its name suggests, thisgorgeous plant is well suited to the English cottage garden, where it willflourish in a sun-baked spot. Grows to 75cm.


  • Garden care:
    These are sold as bare root plants should be planted outas soon as possible after they arrive.Plant them shallowly with the upper part of the rhizomesitting on the surface of the soil, incorporatinga low nitrogen fertiliser in the planting hole.After planting remove the uppermost third of the leaves to protectagainst wind rock. In exposed areas stake with bamboo canes in earlyspring. Remove the stems after flowering from the base asthis will concentrate the plant's energy into producing new rhizomes.Divide and replant about every three years.
