A dwarf, moisture-loving rush that produces tight clumps of bright green, grass-like foliage. Throughout the summer, these stems are topped with rounded clusters of tiny purple-brown flowers, which fade to brown as they age, but remain interesting for several months. Plant Juncus ensifolius in generous clumps at the margins of a pond, or towards the front of a boggy border.
Plant out in reliably moist or boggy soil, or pot up into a pond basket and place at the margins of a pond with a water covering of 0-8cm (0-3") deep. Remove dead foliage and old flowered stems in spring. From mid-spring to early summer lift and divide congested clumps.
- CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
