Native to coastal regions and salt marshes, Juncus maritimus stands out with its slender, erect stems and tufted growth pattern. The wiry stems, characterised by their round and slightly flattened appearance, boast a vibrant green hue. Long, narrow leaves tuft along the stems, contributing to the plant's tufted and compact aesthetic. Unfazed by its wet-footed or boggy surroundings, this perennial grass-like beauty thrives in coastal environments, showcasing its resilience to sea spray and slightly brackish water. In summer, unassuming clusters of brownish flowers make a subtle appearance, adding a touch of understated charm. Ideal for shallow waters or damp soil, sea rush brings a neat and organised look, offering a unique contrast to pond borders.

  • Garden care:
Plant out in reliably moist or boggy soil, or pot up into a pond basket and place at the margins of a pond with a water covering of 0-8cm (0-3") deep. Remove dead foliage and old flowered stems in spring. From mid-spring to early summer lift and divide congested clumps.
