A stunning semi-evergreen perennial with a profusion of beautiful, pale blue saucer-shaped flowers each dotted with a golden eye held above narrow grey-green leaves. Heat tolerant and good for hot, dry locations, the seeds of flax are used in bread, baking and cereals.
Linum sibiricum also loos great when planted in drifts for cottage and informal gardens, gravel and rock gardens, and wall side borders.

Best grown under glass at 16°C (61°F) from late March. Germination takes 1-2 weeks. When seedlings are large enough to handle, prick off into pots or boxes and grow on. Gradually harden off and plant out in September or October, 30cm (12in) apart, for flowering the following summer.
Flax prefers a sunny position with well-drained soil and tolerates poor, sandy conditions. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance, needing only occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Remove spent flowers to a longer bloom period, and cut back the stems after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape.
This hardy perennial generally requires little feeding, though a light mulch in spring can support growth, and it is resistant to pests and diseases.
