Boasting delicate, clover-like foliage that elegantly extends above the water's surface, this vigorous and oxygenating aquatic plant bears a distinctive appearance, characterised by clusters of leaves divided into four leaflets, lending it a unique four-leafed charm. While its green-leaves dominates, occasional hints of reddish or bronze tones emerge, particularly in well-lit settings. Sporting a creeping and spreading growth habit, Marsilea quadrifolia forms a lush, carpet-like mat with runners generating new plantlets. Potentially invasive, it's advisable to keep this plant potted to manage its exuberant spread.
Grow in moist, boggy soils or fully submerged in clear water ponds to a maximum depth of up to 25cm (10") below water level. Check growth to avoid the plant becoming invasive. As with any non-native oxygenator, please do not plant in any place with a connection to a natural body of water. Aquatics can appear a little flaccid after their travel to you but will regenerate once submerged in water.
