A stunning and highly fragrant evergreen twining vine, which despite its common name, is not actually a wisteria. In a similar way to its namesake however, it produces an abundace of dark purple, pea-like flower panicles from May to June. Pair this bicoloured beauty with the colour-matched sweet pea ‘Matucana’, also with a heady scent, to enjoy what Humphry Repton once described as the ‘olfactory joy’.

  • Garden care:
In growth, feed monthly & water freely, sparingly in winter. In milder areas, grow in moderately fertile, well-drained or moist but well-drained soil in full sun with some protection such as horticultural fleece if severe or prolonged frost is forecast.
  • To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
