An ornamental grass with striking red-tinged, green foliage that emerges in spring, intensifying as the season progresses, making it a bold addition to borders, statement pots or mixed plantings. By late summer, 'Lady in Red' showcases elegant, silver-white plumes with dark purple anthers atop wiry stems, reaching up to 1.2m (4ft) tall. Its upright habit and arching leaves add structure and movement, while the foliage transitions from deep green to vibrant burgundy and red in autumn, creating a dynamic display throughout the rest of the year and on into winter.

  • Garden care:
Water newly planted grasses regularly in their first summer; after that, they become better adapted to dry conditions in open ground. Lift and divide clumps every five years to maintain vigour. For container-grown Miscanthus, water regularly in summer to prevent drying out. Leave top growth standing through winter and cut back to ground level in late February as new shoots emerge.
