Big, bold and brilliantly red, this tropical pitcher plant makes a real talking point on a sunny windowsill or in a bright terrarium.
Nepenthes ‘Diane’ is a vigorous hybrid, bred from Nepenthes ventricosa x sibuyanensis crossed with a red Nepenthes ampullaria. It forms a compact plant with sturdy, arching leaves and masses of tubby, crimson hanging pitchers that glow against fresh green foliage. These eye-catching traps are designed to catch insects, giving the plant its well-known 'Monkeycup' nickname, and they look just as impressive in the home as they do in the tropics.
This hybrid handles a wide range of conditions, coping well with temperatures between 10-30°C (50-86°F) and thriving in bright, indirect light. Water from top with rainwater, distilled or reverse osmosis water two to three times a week, and keep humidity up with regular misting or a room humidifier. Feed one or two small insects per pitcher each month to keep this carnivorous plant performing at its best and producing those striking red cups.

Nepenthes thrive in warm, humid, and partly shady environments, daytime temperatures should be maintained around 18-27°C (65-80°F), with a minimum of 7°C (45°F) at night, making them ideal for year-round indoor cultivation. They prefer being watered with rainwater, and many species benefit from sitting in a saucer filled with 2.5-5cm (1-2in) of water during the growing season. In winter, it's best to keep the compost damp rather than wet. Never add water into the pitchers as this can cause them to shrivel and die. Pot on in spring using a specialist carnivorous compost.
Please note: all our indoor hanging pots include drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. We recommend taking them down to water in the sink or on a saucer, and leaving them to drain before rehanging.
