This easy to grow perennial will quickly spread to form a generous clump, which in late spring and early summer, is topped with star-shaped white flowers. A great addition to the front of a border, the bulbs of Ornithogalum umbellatum can also be naturalised in turf or grown in pots on the patio.
Plant bulbs 5-8cm (2-3in) deep and 10cm (4in) apart in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Water well after planting and during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging.
This species is fully hardy and will naturalise over time, forming small clumps. Allow the foliage to die back naturally in late spring before cutting back, which helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
