This popular, rounded, evergreen shrub has glossy, finely toothed, dark green leaves beautifully offset by highly scented, jasmine like, white flowers in mid and late spring. In flower, it will light up a shady corner of the garden and as an evergreen, makes a lovely foil for other flowering plants and ferns. Osmanthus × burkwoodii makes an excellent coastal windbreak at maturity, or a divinely scented evergreen hedge or backdrop for foreground plantings.

Dig a planting hole to the depth of the pot, ensuring the compost level of the rootball is just below the soil level. Break up the bottom of the planting hole with a fork to encourage better root penetration/establishment. Lightly condition the hole and backfill with some well-rotted garden compost/alternative soil conditioner and also adding some root grow/mycorrhizal fungi to the planting hole. Minimal pruning is required. Remove misplaced, dead or diseased branches in late spring and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
