- Position: full sun
- Soil: moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: July to August
- Hardiness: fully hardy
In July and August, whorls of tubular, lilac flowers appear at intervals like fluffy beads, on erect stems held high above large, downy leaves. Even after the flowers fade, this plant retains a dramatic presence in the border, with architectural seedheads that look wonderful among late-flowering perennials and grasses.
Phlomoides tuberosa 'Amazone' is a versatile, robust perennial that can cope with drought and is equally at home as part of a cottage garden scheme or among silver leaved plants and ornamental grasses.

Plant in well-drained soil and a sunny or partially shaded position, where its drought tolerance makes it a great choice for dry gardens or gravel borders once it becomes established.
Water regularly during the first year to help establish strong roots, but once settled, it requires minimal watering.
Leave faded flower stems for as long as possible in autumn/winter for structural interest and wildlife value. Cut back any stems at the base when no longer decorative.
