The foliage of this compact, evergreen shrub is attractively variegated, but in spring, the new growth emerges with a pinkish red flush. At around the same time, pendent clusters of white, lily-of-the-valley-like flowers appear, further adding to the overall appeal. Ideally suited to pots (filled with ericaceous compost), or front of border positions, it's perfect for brightening up a small patio or courtyard garden. - Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of composted pine needles or ericaceous compost each year around the base of the plant in early spring. Remove the faded flower-heads in late spring along with any frost-damaged foliage.
- Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
