Clusters of pink buds, each on a long, pendent stem, open to pale pink flowers, which fade to white as they mature. Appearing later in the season and usually at the same time as the foliage, they look very striking in mid- to late spring - particularly when viewed from underneath. Throughout the summer the rich green leaves provide lightly dappled shade before taking on autumnal tones, while the tree's gracefully spreading branches, which become more defined as the plant gets older, create an elegant effect that will offer interest through the winter.

  • Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Lightly prune in summer to retain the shape and cut back any dead, diseased or crossing branches.
