This striking evergreen shrub is a fantastic addition to borders or containers, with its trifoliate, toothed leaves that transition from deep green to dark purple as they mature.
Upright stems in bronze-green provide added architectural interest, while the plant’s flowers, resembling those of Schefflera or Fatsia, attract bees in warm summers and are followed by berries loved by birds.
Pseudopanax 'Dark Star' thrives in free-draining, fertile soil and performs best in sunny or dappled shade positions. Hardy down to freezing only, it will require winter protection in colder regions but grows well outdoors in milder spots. Ideal for coastal gardens, it also makes an excellent container plant, easily moved into a glasshouse or conservatory during winter if needed. Avoid overwatering to keep it looking its best.
