A compact, spiny evergreen shrub valued for its profusion of colourful orange-red berries in autumn. This upright, later spreading cultivar has dark green glossy foliage and thorns along its branches while clusters of small white flowers bloom in late spring, followed by abundant bright orange berries that persist into winter. Grown primarily for its showy fruit display that provides seasonal interest, 'Saphyr Orange' works well as a specimen shrub, espalier wall shrub, or informal hedge - its spiny nature also makes it an effective barrier plant against unwanted four-legged and two-legged visitors.

When planting incorporate plenty of well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole. Prune hedges in early to mid-summer. In early spring, trim out misplaced or crossing branches on free-standing shrubs. Tie in any shoots to extend the framework of wall shrubs, and shorten branches to about 2 or 3 leaves from the base after flowering to expose the berries.
- Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
