One of the real treats of the veg garden in late summer, the sweet yellow kernels of this reliable sweetcorn have a very high sugar content and a fine, rich flavour that will have your mouth watering. Plant in blocks rather than rows to ensure pollination so that the 20cm (8in) long cobs fill right to the tip with kernels.
Have a saucepan already on the boil before you pick your sweetcorn to keep the time between picking and eating to a minimum, preserving the flavour at its sweetest.

Sweetcorn plants thrive in full sun, so ensure the plants get at least 6-8 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Sweetcorn plants are wind-pollinated, so to increase fruit set, gently shake the plants when the tassels appear, or consider planting several pots close together. Cobs are ready when the tassels have turned brown.
Sow seeds undercover from early spring in pots or modules at 70°F (21°C) until germination occurs approx 2-3 weeks later. Plant out from late May following a period of hardening off. Alternatively, sow direct from late spring in a grid pattern to ensure pollination.
