A reliable, heirloom variety from 1902 with deliciously sweet cobs and a strong corn-like taste. ‘Golden Bantum’ is suitable for early planting, thriving in cooler conditions and soils, and bears 2 cobs per plant.
Sweetcorn plants thrive in full sun, so ensure the plants get at least 6-8 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Sweetcorn plants are wind-pollinated, so to increase fruit set, gently shake the plants when the tassels appear, or consider planting several pots close together. Cobs are ready when the tassels have turned brown.
Sow seeds undercover from early spring in pots or modules at 70°F (21°C) until germination occurs approx 2-3 weeks later. Plant out from late May following a period of hardening off. Alternatively, sow direct from late spring in a grid pattern to ensure pollination. Cobs are ready to harvest when the tassels have turned brown.
