With large, heart-shaped leaves variegated with green margins and burgundy centres, 'Heartthrob' adds striking foliage to the shadier parts of the garden. Pink flowers emerge in spring, providing a delightful contrast to the colourful leaves. Ideal for ground cover, containers, hanging baskets, or the front of borders, this perennial viola thrives in light shade and sheltered spots, its semi-evergreen foliage pairing well with hellebores or woodland plants like lily of the valley.

  • Garden care:
Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting. Keep well watered, and feed with a good, high potash fertiliser (such as Tomorite) on a regular basis. Pinching off the spent flowers will encourage more to form.
