These are chunky pine bark nuggets, sourced from sustainable forests and graded to 30-50mm so they’re more substantial than standard chipped bark. Spread over your paths, pots, beds and borders they’ll create an attractive forest floor carpet that lasts twice as long as bark chips.

A natural weed barrier, they also insulate plants’ roots from extreme temperature changes whilst retaining moisture in the soil. Each 50 litre bag will cover 2m to a depth of 2.5cm, or approximately 13 x 40cm pots to a depth of 3cm.

How to use:

Paths, beds and borders:

Pin down a perforated fabric membrane before spreading over a 2.5-5cm deep layer of bark. If planting, cut an X shaped hole in the membrane and plant into the planting hole. Cover the membrane and under the plant canopy with bark chips.

Pots and containers:

Spread a 3-5cm layer of bark over the top of the compost or soil to insulate roots and help reduce water loss.

Maintenance:

Remove any annual weeds as they appear and replenish with fresh bark annually. Check compost underneath is fresh and has not formed a crusted salt layer. Replace compost as necessary and top off with fresh bark.
