These pots are a timeless shape that we’ve tweaked with a useful extra feature to give molluscs a friendly warning to keep away!
Around the waist is a recessed channel designed to hold a scarf of abrasive material to deter slugs and snails. You can add whatever material you like. We’d suggest wool (see our wool pot scarf) or copper mesh, but experiment and see what works best for you.
Needless to say we recommend them for edible plants, hostas and other green leafies that are irresistible to our slug and snail friends.
These are hand thrown in Turkey from local clay and supplied with a large hole for drainage. Over time they will age to an attractive patina as the salts slowly leach to the surface.
Each pot is fired to 1080°C to make it as frost resistant as possible. For extra protection we would suggest raising it on pot feet and moving it to a sheltered spot in the colder months.
Please note: white specks in the terracotta are lime granules, which occur naturally in raw Turkish clay. Occasionally when pots are fired the clay around them can split out a little, but this won’t compromise the pot’s strength. Lime helps to bind the clay and ultimately makes for a stronger pot. As the pots are hand thrown, the measurements are approximate.
Measurements:
Small - Ø28cm x H30cm (base Ø19cm)
Large - Ø38cm x H32cm (base Ø22cm)
