This neat, tufted grass forms a compact mound of slender blue-green leaves that stay attractive all year. In spring and early summer it sends up upright flower spikes that open in soft, pale tones before maturing into purple-brown seedheads, adding light texture above the foliage.

Its tidy habit makes it useful as a single specimen or in groups for ground cover, edging, or mixed planting. Sesleria ‘Greenlee’ thrives in well-drained soil in full sun or light shade and copes well with poorer ground once established. It remains largely trouble-free, shows good drought tolerance, and brings reliable structure to borders or gravel gardens with very modest maintenance.

  • Garden care:
Plant in well-drained soil, ideally in full sun or partial shade, where it will thrive in a range of soil types, including poor or dry soils.

Water regularly during the first growing season to help plants establish, but once mature, it becomes more drought-tolerant.

Remove spent flower stems after blooming to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh growth. In early spring, cut back old foliage to refresh the clump and maintain its neat, upright habit.

Avoid planting in heavy, poorly drained soil, as excessively wet, winter ground conditions can lead to root rot.
