This wonderful evergreen will provide year-round interest. It comes into bloom in late spring, producing generous clusters of scented white flowers - and if there is a male skimmia nearby ('Kew Green', 'Rubella' or 'Fragrans' would be ideal), it will go on to form snow-white berries in autumn. The backdrop of the rich green foliage acts as the perfect showcase for both the flowers and the fruits, but at other times of the year, it provides that all-important structure to mixed or shrub borders. A relatively compact form, 'Kew White' is also ideal for pots.

  • Garden care:
When planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted organic matter to improve moisture retention, soil fertility and drainage. Skimmia prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil, so avoid chalky conditions unless supplemented with ericaceous compost. Water well after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, especially in dry spells.

Minimal pruning is required, but you can lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape. Mulching in spring with compost or leaf mould will help retain moisture and keep the roots cool.

Protect from harsh winter winds to prevent leaf scorch, especially in colder regions.
