The deeply lobed green leaves create a somewhat lacy effect, and each is irregularly threaded or blotched with burgundy. Then, in spring and early summer, burgundy-flushed stems bearing cone-shaped clusters of tight, pink buds shoot upwards, before opening to masses of tiny white, star-shaped flowers. Tiarella 'Pink Skyrocket' makes a sublime ground-cover for partially shaded position, and looks best when planted in naturalised drifts and allowed to meander.
Tiarella thrives best in cool, moist, humus-rich soil and prefers partial to full shade, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Protect the plant from excessive winter moisture to prevent root rot. It can spread freely, making it an excellent choice for ground cover in shaded areas.
Trim back lightly after the flowering period, and remove any dead or damaged leaves to tidy the plant and encourage new growth, in late winter or early spring.
