Glowing white star-shaped flowers form in loose clusters amongst the slender foliage in early spring. Scilla luciliae (Gigantea Group) 'Alba' is a wonderful addition to pots or windowboxes, and will also flourish in rockeries, gravel gardens or borders. Although it's happiest in a sunny spot, it could also be used to underplant deciduous trees or shrubs, where it will receive all the sun it needs in early spring.
Plant bulbs 8-10cm (3-4in) deep and 8-10cm (3-4in) apart in autumn, in clumps or naturalistic drifts where they can remain undisturbed for several years. Deadhead as the flowers fade to prevent self-seeding, or lift and divide congested clusters in summer when fully dormant.
- Harmful if eaten
