Flowering for long periods between June and September, ‘Stella’ is a small semi-evergreen shrub with delicately scented, yellow flowers, followed by glossy, black berries that persist throughout autumn and winter. Once established, this elegant, Mediterranean shrub becomes dome-shaped and is considered to be drought-tolerant.
Incorporate some well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole when planting and add a scoop of mycorrhizal fungi. Mulch around the base of the plant in autumn to protect the roots from hard winter frosts. Once established, prune for form just after it has finished flowering.
To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
