This award-winning cultivar is sought after for its compact habit and striking red flowerspikes, which appear in profusion above the arching mound of fresh green foliage. It's a stunning plant for a larger pot, and it will also add a bright splash of colour to a mixed or herbaceous border, where it will team up well with other late flowering perennials such as Helenium, Rudbeckia and Crocosmia species.
When planting, choose a site in full sun, incorporating organic matter to improve drainage and soil structure.
Water newly planted grasses regularly in their first summer; after that, they become better adapted to dry conditions in open ground. Lift and divide clumps every five years to maintain vigour.
For container-grown Miscanthus, water regularly in summer to prevent drying out. Leave top growth standing through winter and cut back to ground in late February as new shoots emerge.
