Blue, pea-like flowers with white standards that are sometimes streaked with purple, open from the base of the flower spike over several weeks from early summer and create a handsome, yet elegant effect. The attractive, fresh, green foliage of Lupinus 'The Governor' is also a noteworhty feature, forming a neat mound that maintains a good shape through summer.

  • Garden care:
Plant lupins in full sun with well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, avoiding heavy clay. Water regularly while establishing, but once mature they become more tolerant to dry conditions.

Stake tall cultivated varieties with bamboo canes in spring before flowers appear, and remove faded blooms to encourage a second flush. Mulch lightly in winter to protect roots, and watch for slugs and snails on young growth.
    • Pets: TOXIC if eaten; Humans: Harmful if eaten
