A beautiful white-flowered cultivated form of our native Ragged Robin with star-shaped flowers from early summer to early autumn. 'White Robin' is easy to grow and responds well to being cut hard back to encourage a second flush of flowers later in the year. Good for informal flower borders or beds, it combines well with other late flowering perennials such as Achillea and Perovskia, as well as being well-suited to meadows or wild gardens with reliably damp soil.
Lychnis thrives in well-drained soil, preferably in full sun or partial shade. Plant in a location where it can receive at least six hours of sunlight daily for optimal flowering. Before planting, enrich the soil with organic matter to ensure good soil health and improve heavier or lighter soils.
Once established, this hardy perennial benefits from regular watering during dry spells to keep the soil consistently moist. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming and trim back the plant after flowering to encourage a tidy shape and prevent self-seeding.
In late autumn or early spring, cut back the foliage to ground level to prepare for new growth.
