The slender green foliage of this flowering indoor plant forms in gently splaying rosettes, and these are accompanied (usually from spring to autumn), by spectacular spear-like heads of bright red bracts. An eye-catching and easy to grow house plant, Vriesea 'Astrid' could also be moved out onto a patio or balcony during the summer months.
Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

Keep flaming sword in a bright spot with plenty of indirect light, away from strong sun and cold draughts, and aim for a constant warm temperature above 15°C (59°F). Let the compost dry out a bit between waterings, as they dislike sitting in wet compost, and mist the leaves in summer because they take in moisture through their foliage.
A spot with steady warmth and moderate humidity, such as a bright bathroom or a warm living room, suits them well, and you can remove old flower spikes once they fade to keep the plant tidy.
